Annual Membership Campaign
Once Again, It’s Membership Time!
If you are reluctant to give in a higher category, you can nevertheless greatly assist us in defraying our ever-escalating costs by modestly increasing your gift within your accustomed range.
Once again, it’s that time of year when we ask our patrons to show their appreciation of the library by contributing to its annual Membership Campaign. Let me begin by expressing the appreciation of the Trustees, Corporators, and staff for the extraordinary support we received in the 2021 campaign, when we exceeded our reduced goal and very nearly reached our traditional goal of $40,000 – this in a time of continuing uncertainty brought about by the Covid pandemic. As a result of your generosity (and the performance of the financial markets), we are emerging from the Covid crisis relatively unscathed.
That said, our needs for your continuing support have not diminished. The operating budget continues to grow and in the next year will exceed $170,000 as salaries and the cost of goods and services increase. As costs have grown over the ten-plus years of membership campaigns, we have resisted increasing the dollar amounts for each level of membership and we will resist an increase for as long as we can, but we would remind you that additional gifts, whether $5 or $10 from an Individual or several hundred from a Founders’ Circle member, are always welcome and are a great help in meeting our obligations.
We would also remind you that memberships are for the calendar year. Membership contributions received between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022 are applied to 2022; gifts received after June 30th will be applied to 2023. If you are ever in doubt as to whether you have already paid for 2022, please don’t hesitate to ask us to check our records by calling me at 508-362-7660 or sending an email to wl.peat@gmail.com.
